Technology should unlock potential, not gatekeep it.

Samartya Apps exists because millions of children around the world have thoughts, ideas, and stories inside them — but struggle to express them through spoken or written language. Some have autism. Some have dyslexia. Some are learning English for the first time. All of them deserve tools that meet them where they are.

We build apps that make language visible, reading accessible, and learning achievable. Our tools are used by speech-language pathologists, special educators, reading specialists, and families in the United States, India, and beyond.

Our Story

FreeSpeech and Dyslexia Reader were originally developed by Avaz Inc., an Indian assistive technology company founded by Ajit Narayanan. Ajit's work on visual language systems and affordable communication technology earned recognition from TED, MIT Technology Review, and the President of India.

Both products were acquired by Samartya Apps. We continue to develop and support them with the same mission-driven focus — making evidence-based language and reading tools available and affordable for every child who needs them.

The name "Samartya" comes from Sanskrit, meaning "capability" or "empowerment." It reflects our core belief: every child has the capability to learn, communicate, and grow — they just need the right support.
